STYLING A SUIT.
I’ve been toying around with dipping my toes back in to ‘style’ posts. It’s been a good few years since I’ve put together a blog post dedicated purely to fashion, with no lifestyle twist to go alongside, but I hope you’ll enjoy it!
One item I believe every woman should have in her wardrobe, is a good suit. For the longest time I feared wearing one, thinking I’d look stupid in something so formal - but actually, whether it’s pieced together or separated out, they're a fundamental item that enables you to have some killer bits under your belt, preparing you for any occasion.
Recently, I’ve been really enjoying wearing a pair of suit trousers daily, styling it with a t-shirt or baggy jumper, I really love the juxtaposition of smart vs. casual and playing with a more androgynous style. I’ll often team smarter trousers with a pair of ankle boots or trainers, and now we’re moving over to warmer weather, I’d definitely crack out a pair of sandals.
Occasion wear is my least favourite thing to shop for. Alarm bells immediately ring as soon as the word ‘wedding’ comes up and I think ‘Gah! What am I going to wear?!’
But if you’re heading to an event that calls for something a little more formal, a suit makes it really easy for you.
It’s a given that you’re going to look smart, you’ll be prepared for any weather and my favourite attribute to any item of clothing…you throw it on and you’re done.
Wearing a bold suit makes me very happy, but you can equally have as much fun with more muted tones and interesting patterns, like the pink.
Don’t be afraid to pull out items from your existing wardrobe too when thinking about what to wear underneath; I love having a plethora of shades going on but you’ll look just as sophisticated playing it a little safer with a plain white tee or camisole.
The beauty of a suit is that it has the safety net of doing what it says on the tin, but if you want to experiment with them you have that option too. And when you can have something in your wardrobe that serves for occasion wear and your everyday wardrobe, you can’t really go wrong!
