FIND THE PERFECT LEATHER JACKET.
Up until the beginning of 2015, a leather jacket wasn't something I saw particularly as an investment. I didn't feel I'd get much use out of it or that it would sit all that well with my existing wardrobe.Well since then I've learned a thing or two about this versatile little number and so today I want to share with you my tips for why you really do need a leather jacket in your life, and of course some pointers on how to style them, too.Leather jackets are a timeless piece - and opting for the real deal over pleather means you'll be able to wear it for years to come. It's a pricey purchase but one with a huge pay-off. Being able to wear a leather jacket three seasons out of four, means your pennies are going further than any other type of coat or jacket purchase, making it an instant investment. In Spring it makes the perfect pairing to throw over lightweight dresses and come Winter you're able to layer the hell out of it. But if you're going to be wearing it a lot, you need to make sure it's the right one for you - especially if it's costing a wee bit.

What style should you go for?As with any clothing, comfort is key and it's all trial and error, but here are some pointers on how to look for the best one for you. You've got your five main categories when it comes to real leather.The Rider/Biker - probably the most popular of all the styles and the one featured in these images.The Racer - opting for a slightly sportier and minimalistic look this offers a streamlined design and a snugger fit.The Bomber - comes with cotton or fabric elasticated cuffs and collars. It's also more likely to have a thicker lining.The Flight - remember the old Pilot jackets? That's this baby. Detailed large flap pockets to the front, a woollen collar and elasticated cotton cuffs it's not worlds away from the Bomber.The Fencing jacket - seen a little less on high street designs, with asymmetrical zippers, a high neck collar and a slim fit.There are so many variations of these styles on the market, I've highlighted some pointers when picking your style that might help you make your decision:Cropped - if you're quite narrow a cropped fit will be really flatteringShoulder Details - are a nice added extra and help to balance the body shapeLarge Collar - lovely on a narrow frameNo Collar - super sleek and takes any heaviness away from the styleFitted - perfect for showing off your shape, no matter your sizeSide Zip - really flattering for curvy ladiesCinched Waist - if you're straight up and down, a cinched waist will help define your middleButton Down - straight down the middle offers a more slimming effectOversized - great if you're petite and like to layer upAnd here are a couple of those styles for you to look at online:

I'm personally a big fan of the Rider and the Bomber and own both. With my bomber I opted for a slimmer, more fitted size and with my Rider (as pictured) you can see I've gone slightly over-sized and cropped. That means I can make the most of this one come Winter and layer it up whilst still being able to lift my arms up!How do you wear your leather jacket?
